About Centreboard
Welcome! Centreboard Physical Therapy and Massage was founded on a simple belief: caring for your physical body is just as essential as caring for your mental and emotional well-being. When your body feels stable, supported, and pain-free, every part of life becomes more accessible. Centreboard exists to help you get there.
We offer an integrative approach to bodywork, combining Physical Therapy, Massage Therapy, Cupping, Recovery Compression Sleeves, and specialized programming. No two bodies move the same, so no two treatment plans should either. Every patient receives individualized care designed to reduce tension, improve movement, and support long-term stability—not just short-term relief.
What sets Centreboard apart is flexibility. We provide in-network services with major insurance carriers—including Medicare, Medicare Advantage plans, Anthem BCBS, Aetna, United Healthcare, Cigna, Harvard Pilgrim, Maine Community Health Options, Taro, and Worker’s Comp—as well as cash-pay options when that route makes more sense for your goals, timeline, or coverage. Your treatment plan is driven by clinical expertise and your input—not by insurance limitations. Whether you need longer sessions, a specific mix of therapies, or a progression that doesn’t fit a standard model, we make space for what’s actually appropriate for your body.
Our priority is helping you make your health a priority—without unnecessary financial barriers. And because we offer multiple services under one roof, you’re able to maintain continuity in your care as your needs evolve, whether that includes massage, programming support, or ongoing physical therapy.
If you’re ready to move toward a more stable, grounded, and resilient body, we’re here to help you explore what’s possible.
What’s in a Name?
How we became “Centreboard” Physical Therapy & Massage
Growing up & living in coastal Maine, Dr. Michelle couldn’t imagine being far from the water and wanted to feel connected to that when she opened her therapy practice. In the sailing world, the functions of the centreboard (UK) or centerboard (US), put simply, involve: reduction of drag & resistance, prevention of drifting, and providing lateral stability. At Centreboard, the goal with clients and patients, put simply, involve: enhancing the body's ability to move by reducing resistance of muscular tension and imbalances, providing therapeutic interventions to help achieve movement goals, and facilitating finding stability and centredness in one’s physical body. The retractability allows the centreboard to be raised to operate in shallow waters, when the full area of the centreboard is not needed. This resonates with our hope to educate and empower our clients and patients to become resilient and adapt to take care of their bodies.
